Biography

Zernil Lurthanathan is a seasoned risk leader with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, bringing deep expertise across the ASEAN region. As Chief Risk Officer, Regional Risk & Group Risk Strategy at RHB Banking Group, she is responsible for shaping enterprise-wide risk strategies, driving transformation programmes, and strengthening risk culture and innovation across the organisation. Zernil has held risk management and strategy roles spanning regulatory bodies, exchanges, and banking institutions. She began her career at Great Eastern Life Assurance before moving to Bank Negara Malaysia, where she specialised in risk management and prudential policy. She subsequently led Regulatory Strategy & Data Analytics at Bursa Malaysia and later spearheaded strategic risk initiatives at CIMB Bank. At RHB, Zernil has been instrumental in advancing risk management practices through data-driven insights, agile analytics sprints, and decision science applications. Her unique blend of strategy, analytics, and risk expertise enables her to effectively navigate complex challenges and enhance organisational resilience. She holds a Master of Science in Decision Sciences from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor (Hons) in Decision Sciences from Universiti Utara Malaysia. Zernil is a recipient of multiple accolades.
