Biography
Sharad Bohra is a Director at Barclays Singapore with over 20 years of experience spanning Regulatory capital governance, Market risk management, Risk assurance and Controls. He currently serves as Std Market Risk Lead and Head of Controls and Governance, with the majority of his experience across the first and second lines of defense in large global financial institutions. The majority of his career has been built at Barclays, complemented by earlier experience at Standard Chartered Bank and Citigroup, across markets in Asia and Europe. Over the years, he has worked extensively on the implementation and interpretation of regulatory rules, with a particular specialization in understanding the challenges associated with translating regulation into practice, as well as the data-related challenges that often accompany it. He has also been closely involved in AI governance within risk and finance functions, contributing to the responsible adoption of AI and automation in regulatory and risk processes. Sharad holds deep expertise in the practical implementation of regulatory frameworks such as Basel II/III/IV and FRTB, with a strong focus on navigating the data, systems, and other operational hurdles involved in translating regulation into practice. His approach centres on delivering intelligent controls across the end-to-end reporting process, breaking down regulation into discrete, actionable citations, and ensuring implementation is evidenced at the individual action level. He is a Certified Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) from Singapore Management University, and a Certified Financial Services Risk Manager, holding the IRM Certificate in Financial Services Risk Management. He is also a student mentor with the NUS Uplift Mentorship Programme. Sharad has previously spoken at Risk Live Asia on topics including data integrity in market risk modelling and FRTB.
